European Klassik Rock (EKR) is back! Following a soft launch that tested both its technical facilities and its music format at www.ekr.net, EKR officially launched on Good Friday 2009. The station plans to continue expanding features and programming throughout 2009.

EKR originally broadcast between 1997 and 1999 on Sky Analogue via Astra and in London on DAB. Heralded by many as one of the greatest rock stations of all time, the station was thought by many to be "ahead of its time".

The breath of fresh air to many listeners was thought to be too radical by many in the radio industry and the station failed in its bid to the Radio Authority to win a place on the national DAB multiplex. Today, 10 years on, there is still nothing quite like EKR and the demand remains.

With the increasing proliferation of Internet Radio via PCs, Laptops, Tablets, Wireless Devices and mobile phones it can be argued that the "playing field" has now been levelled. In response to the many requests for EKR to return with its unique brand of music, the station finally returned this Autumn.

We are picking up support fast too. Our MySpace adjunct site has only been running for just a few months and has already picked up over 1,400 friends of impressive pedigree and attracted some 35,000 hits.

Furthermore, our rolling music test format is swiftly attracting a significant audience already. Recording artists such as Anubis, Thunder, David Gilmour, Nazareth , Steve Thorne and Raw Glory are already clamouring to get their new material played on the station – thanks guys! Burke Shelley and Budgie, amongst many others, have sent us their best wishes and said, “Thanks for the friendship. It's good to hear real music being played in this Simon Cowell dominated world."
